Understanding Flow vs Pressure vs Vacuum in Miniature Pump Specs

How to read specification tables and avoid treating maximum flow, maximum pressure and maximum vacuum as one operating condition.

Maximum values are boundary values

Maximum flow is commonly measured near zero load, while maximum pressure or vacuum appears when flow is very low. A stable equipment condition usually sits between those limits.

Ask for the operating point or curve whenever the design depends on a specific flow at a specific pressure or vacuum.

System resistance moves the point

Long tubing, small fittings, fine filters and valves can move the pump away from the brochure value. Selection should review those restrictions early.

Can I use maximum flow for my design?

Only when your system load is close to the test condition. Most OEM equipment should use loaded-flow validation.
